The label side of things currently has about 10 people who work on things like making At The
Drive-In records magically appear in stores near your house (please go buy one and make their
jobs worthwhile, thanks).

- GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT GRAND ROYAL
- 2.1 - What Is Your Demo Tape Policy?
- We DO accept unsolicited demos (unsolicited means we didn't ask you to send it). Your unsolicited demo falls under the "Don't call us, we'll call you" type of category. Address your music to: Head Of A&R Frankie Schoolhouse, Grand Royal, PO Box 847, Culver City, CA, 90232 DO NOT E-MAIL US MP3 FILES AND WRECK OUR E-MAIL (that's no way to start a relationship). And actually, we're much more apt to listen to your music if you send us your MP3.com page than if you just e-mail us your web site. It's easier to just hit the "hi-fi radio" button than download your music, find it on our hard drive, etc.

- 2.2 - I have a magazine/zine/web site. Will you send me promo CDs?
- Grand Royal's press is handled by Nasty Little Man in NYC. Send your request to them and if they can verify that you have people looking at your publication they'll hook you up.

- We're sorry but we can't hook up every single DJ with free records.
We do have a radio promotions department that works all day every day
servicing college radio and commercial radio DJs with Grand Royal music
for airplay. Tick heads up that effort.
To be serviced by the Grand Royal Promotions Department, you must:
- Submit your playlist
- Be a trade reporter to trades such as CMJ, HITS, ALBUM NETWORK,
VIRTUALLY ALTERNATIVE, CMJ, GAVIN, and/or Hip Hop Urban Trades

- 2.4 - Can I join the Grand Royal Street Team?
- We used to have a sign-up form on GrandRoyal.com until we got 1400 people who we couldn't service because we're already struggling to properly service our current street team of more than 300 people worldwide! In other words, we're full up with street teamers for now. We'll post a form on the site when we need more street teamers in the future.

- 3.3 - How Can I Get Permission To Use A Song By A Grand Royal Artist In My Project?
- Send your request in writing to Grand Royal, PO Box 847, Culver City, CA 90232.
We love to support the arts and independent projects in whatever way possible, but
due to time and budgetary constraints, we are generally unable to grant permission
for free. If you're all hot & bothered to get permission and you've got the big
bucks, go ahead and contact us with your request
and we'll help sort you out.

- 3.4 - Why Don't Your Bands Ever Play In My Town?
- Good question. We suggest you bother every venue in your area
and beg them to book your favorite bands. Promoters are often
a bit out of touch with what the peoples in their area would pay to
see. Tell them you want At The Drive-In rather than the Armored Saint/38 Special/Molly Hatchet
reunion tour (yo, I grew up in Indiana myself) and see what they say.

- I dunno, maybe. All of our bands have press agents who help them with
this kind of stuff. You'll need to ask them. Beastie Boys, At The
Drive-In, Nullset, and BS2000 all use Nasty Little Man in NYC (call
212.555.1212 for their number, we won't give it here). Scapegoat
Wax uses Virgin Records press department. PLEASE DO NOT E-MAIL US
YOUR REQUESTS. WE CAN'T HELP YOU. SORRY.

- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT GRAND ROYAL DOT COM (THIS WEB SITE)
- 4.1 - I can't get into the chat room, why not?
- The chat room is Java-based. If you have a current version of Internet Explorer or
Netscape you should be fine. If you're still experiencing difficulties, perhaps
you have a firewall issue or perhaps you're already logged on. The server will
only allow one login from each IP address, so see if you're logged on from another
window or if someone else in your office/house is already logged on.
If you'd like to, you're welcome to connect with the IRC client of your choice
instead of the java applet on this site. Windows users can use a program such
as mIRC and Mac users might try
Ircle. You'll want to connect
to chat.hosting4u.net port 7000 and join the room #grandroyal.

- 4.2 - I want to change my chat nickname but the chat logs me in automatically every time. Help!
- This site remembers who you are (were) so you can use things like the chat with one click
rather than having to type the same info every time. We want to encourage you to send more
of our pages to friends and use more of our features and don't want you to be discouraged by
too much typing. This information is stored in your browser's cookies.
If for some reason you want your browser to forget your nickname, click here.
You'll have to retype your e-mail address if you want to download MP3s or enter the chat.

- 4.3 - How do I configure mIRC to connect automatically to the Grand Royal chat room?
- Here is the setup for the users of mIRC.
I am assuming you already downloaded
the program, opened it up and awaiting
for the
settings to be entered because that is where I am starting from.
If not, click on file then preferences.
1)On the left side, make sure Connect is selected. On the right
side, click on add.
2)For description, type Grand Royal Chat Room.
For IRC Server, type chat.hosting4u.net
For Port(s), type 7000
3)Click ok.
4)Enter in your info for full name and e-mail address.
Enter in your chat nickname in the nickname slot. In case someone
already has claimed your,
chat nickname, enter in another one in the alternative field.
Now to make it log into Grand Royal's chat room right away
1)On the left side, click on Options, should be right underneath
Connect.
2)Put the check in front of Connect on startup
3)Again on the left side, click on IRC. Below that, proceed to
select Perform.
4)Check the box for On connect, perform these commands:
5)In the field below, type /join #grandroyal
Click OK on the bottom and you are ready. Close down the program, open it
back up, and
Congratulations, you are on!

- 4.4 - Why can't I watch the videos from your site?
- Most likely you need to install the most recent version of
Windows Media Player. This is available and works well on
both Mac and Windows platforms. Click

- 4.5 - Why do you use the Windows Media video format and not Quicktime or Real?
- Because:
- It's free to serve. I don't mean to surprise anyone,
but GrandRoyal.com's budget is SMALL. If you want to host our Quicktime for us for FREE, let us know.
- It's free to the users. Both Real and Quicktime try to trick the
player users into buying their players all the time. Every time I see that
Quicktime registration button, I get queasy.
- It works, cross-platform. They finally have reasonable players for both Mac and Windows.
I used to work for Nullsoft and hated Microsoft WMA as much as the next guy. We're using WMA
because it lets the largest number of people see our stuff the simplest and most cost-effectively.
I understand many people prefer Quicktime, and again I'm happy to encode in Quicktime format
if someone (who isn't going to disappear tomorrow) tells me they'll serve it for free. What say,
Jobs? Bring it and I'll show off my NeXT tatoo.

- 5.1 - How do I return or exchange an item?
- The policy is on the back of your packing slip, which is in your package.
Pack it up, ship it to Grand Royal Store Returns, PO Box 847, Culver City, CA 90232.
Include a note with your order number and instructions for exchange or return.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO E-MAIL US BEFORE YOU DO THIS. Give us 14 days to turn this around.

- 5.2 - Why does the status of my order read "ON HOLD"?
- If your order shows "ON HOLD", we're out of stock of one or more items in
your shipment and waiting for new stock to arrive. We'll send your
order as soon as the items you've ordered are back in stock. If you'd like
to cancel your order, please e-mail storemanager@grandroyal.com with
your order number and let us know you'd like to cancel. We're a small
store and do everything we can to keep all items in stock. Please
be patient.

- 5.4 - Is there sales tax or are there international duties applied to my order?
We are required to charge 8.25% sales tax to customers ordering from within California.
International shipping charges do not include any taxes, duties or customs fees that may be charged by your local government upon delivery.
Please check your local post office in advance about their policies.

- 5.5 - When will my package arrive?
Grand Royal ships only via United States Postal Service (USPS). Domestic orders are shipped via Priority Mail.
International orders are shipped parcel post airmail only. We do not ship Surface Mail.
Overnight Delivery is not available at this time.
All in-stock orders are shipped within 3 business days from date order is received.
We may run out of an item temporarily and be waiting for our suppliers to ship to us.
If your order status is “On Hold,” it means that we are waiting for a shipment and your order will be filled as soon as possible.
If there is any other problem (eg. credit card denied), we will contact you directly.

- 5.6 - I Have A Question About An Order I Placed, Who Can I Contact?
- Start by searching the message boards.
REMEMBER TO ALWAYS INCLUDE THE ORDER NUMBER IN ANY CORRESPONDENCE WITH US!
Many of the questions you have will already be answered there.
Next, post your question to the message board. We check the message board frequently and
prefer answering there to answering e-mail because then the answer can help others who
may have similar issues and saves us time in the future. If both of those draw a total
blank, you can e-mail storemanager@grandroyal.com for help. We are a very small operation
and we ask that you keep the e-mails to a minimum, please.

- 5.7 - I don't have a credit card. Can I pay with a money order, PayPal, etc?
- Not currently, no. We're working on offering more methods of payment, but currently
we can't accept any methods of payment accept Visa and Mastercard. We don't want you
sending us a money order for items that are out of stock, etc.

- No. Our catalog is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at
http://www.store.yahoo.com/grand-royal . That is our catalog,
and it's far more up to date than anything we could print and send
you in the mail.

- Good question. If you don't see it in our online store, we're not sure where to get it ourselves.
Amazon.com is good for DVDs and CDs. BeastieBoys.com has a lot of Beastie Boys items we don't
carry in the Grand Royal store. We're trying to get these items into our store as quickly as
possible, too. E-mail us with items you'd like to see in our store at storemanager@grandroyal.com
and if we have enough interest we'll get them in, print them, whatever it takes. But if you
don't see it in our online store, we can't sell it to you.

- 5.95 - Why would I pay $4.50 to ship a CD?
- Good question. We expect most people to buy our CDs from their local stores,
and we're perfectly happy if you buy our records from Amazon.com, CDNow.com, or
whereever. We sell CDs in our store for people who can't get them elsewhere,
or as a convenience when you're already ordering a t-shirt or whatever.
Order more than one item and the shipping price on a CD makes a lot more sense.

- First, you'll need a program for your computer that plays MP3 streams. We recommend Winamp for Windows users, or
Audion for you Macintosh peoples.
Once you meet those requirements, you'll simply click the stream that's appropriate to your
internet connection -- MODEM users click here, and if you have a connection that's
FASTER THAN A MODEM (ISDN, DSL, Cable Modem, T1, LAN) click here.

- 6.3 - Can I listen if I have a Mac?
- On the Mac we didn't know what to recommend, but now I think we can safely recommend
the Apple products Quicktime and
iTunes. A little
more info and helpful tips here.
Here's a tip for Mac listening from fan Mic P: "iTunes (free to down load from apple). When choosing connection speed(at the GR site)click and hold down the link(much like when downloading your juicy wallpapers) then copy the link to clipboard. Next, for quick time: 1-open the quick time player 2-click file 3- choose open url 4-paste the url you just copied into the window by pressing command+v or choosing 'paste' from the edit menu, et voila!
For iTunes steps one and two are the same, then once you launch iTunes click on 'Advanced' and choose the option 'open stream' and paste the copied url into the box and away you go. simple.

- Due to the ephemeral nature of periodicals, it's damn near impossible to find the magazine
in a traditional mag stand because it hasn't come out in some time. There are some record
shops and other retailers who carry back issues of the mag, but unfortunately they can't be
listed here. If you can't find it in your neck of the woods, you can always order it from
the GR OnLine Super Store.
